Dave's nomination story

I would like to nominate David aged 65, from York, to be a torch bearer . A keen runner throughout his life, Dave has run 4 London marathons, and 14 Great North half marathons raising money for charities. His commitment to supporting worthy causes has led him to motivate six non sporting family members to run, all under his mentorship, leading them to complete similar events over a number of years while raising funds for charities. Dave gave up his career to be a full time carer for his disabled wife and tirelessly assists others outside of his family, currently giving time as a voluntary driver for the MS society . Dave's previous voluntary activities include acting as a guide for the Yorkshire Blind Ramblers Club. Dave has for years embraced the Olympic themes of international friendship by opening his home to act as a host for international students. He embraces all sport, following York City Football Club by attending matches when possible, since a boy. He acted as a daily taxi service for his daughter for a number of years while she took part in competitive swimming training and competition , reaching county level. Dave supports Guide Dogs for the Disabled through fundraising, supporting his wife on educational visits on behalf of this charity to schools , or taking his wife`s assistance dog from this charity for a long walk so it can have quality `dog time` away from its assistance role.
