Dave Collins

In nominating Dave as a Torchbearer, there are countless examples over the years of his committment and passion for athletics. Dave's career began when he competed in athletics as a young man when he ran for the county (some of his records are still held today). Dave established a successful running club within his local community in the early 80's which is still going today. Regardless of how many attend or the weather conditions, Dave is the mainstay of the running club, attending every week. His enthusiasm and passion for running inspired me to attend over 10 years ago. Not just a coach, Dave takes his role seriously and regardless of the level of runner he coaches, he encourages them to achieve to the best of their ability. Dave has organised various running events for charity (inc Cancer Research in 2003) where the club ran the whole coastal path of Cornwall to raise funds. Dave is involved in promoting athletics within local schools and regularly coaches sessions at Cornish primary schools. Dave teaches pupils the importance of fair play, fitness and teamwork. Dave continues to be an inspiration to us all at the running club and puts in so much effort to keep the club going, even on those dark, wet, cold January evenings!
