David Clark-Wheeler works for the housing department of Bournemouth Borough Council but is best known to us for his charity work. He was the council's charity organiser for 2010. He is the first to volunteer for any fundraising event and recently raised money for the Help for Heroes charity by standing in the stocks whilst other members of council staff threw wet sponges and custard pies at him! He threatened to shave off his eyebrows if enough was raised - and consequently had to do just that! Dave has done several bungee jumps and abseils for good causes including the Red Cross and Disabled Sports Associations. He ran the Bournemouth 10K race for Children in Need and did a sponsored bus pull. Dave produced a children's story for Bournemouth Big Green Fortnight this year and took part in a local library event to promote this topic to children. Dave is nothing like the fund raiser in 'Little Britain' though, he has a great personality and is a pleasure to work with. I am nominating him to carry the torch as it would be nice way to repay him for the selflessness he has shown over the years. He will get a great sense of pride from this opportunity and - if he can find a way to raise money for charity from doing it, I'm sure he will!
