Daz's nomination story

Daryl was struck down with brain tumours in 2008. After surgery to remove the cancer he suffered complications. In a cruel twist of fate his left leg had to be amputated. You can imagine that this would be enough to break anyone's spirit. Not Daryl, he pulled himself together and with the support of his lovely wife Gillian and their sons he was able to claw his way back from despair. The experience has given him a greater appreciation for life and an understanding and willingness to help others. Daryl sought rehabilitation through Para sport UK, Daryl's determination became an obsession to improve his quality of life and live's of others by competing in long distance charity rides. His enthusiasm and support of these charity rides has encouraged many other amputees and abled body riders alike to join Daryl in his fight against cancer. Daryl raised over four thousand pounds for "Brain cancer Trust" and the number is still growing. Daryl's rides and his motivational and inspirational talks and videos help increase community awareness and participation in these events. Daryl is still fighting cancer but can still find the time to help and encourage others. Daryl's story has inspired me to nominate him as a worthy and genuine candidate as Olympic relay torch bearer. Some of Daryl's story can be viewed at WWW.parasport.org.uk Only one professional video has been made by Parasport uk.... I have raised over £10,000 for the 'Meg Jones Brainstrust charity'.
