Darren is twenty and lights up every walk of life he enters. Mature, fun, caring and enthusiastic, he loves a challenge. A previous Lancashire County rugby player, now with Hope University team and studying a BA(hons) in Childhood and Youth Studies combined with sport. he achieves at most activities and was sportsperson of the year three times at senior school, before gaining a rugby scholarship to St. Edwards College, Liverpool, for his A level years. He has arranged activity days for local children and recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, raising £3,000 for charity. He regularly visits and takes out his grandad, who has Alzheimers disease and is a constant support to me, his grandmother. He has gained the first two stages of the Duke of Edinburgh award and hopes to try for the final accolade soon. When I asked him if I could nominate him to be a torch bearer, his reply was instantly 'yes'. His character and personality constantly spur him on to do diverse and unusual things and I cannot think of anyone who would be more proud to be chosen to represent his local area and he would delight in the experience.
