Danielle Russell

Danielle is a young carer. Unable to live with her birth parents, she has lived alone with her uncle since she was little. Danielle`s uncle was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis less than two years ago and his condition has deteriorated rapidly. Danielle assists her uncle with many household tasks, such as the cooking, shopping, washing and ironing. She also helps her uncle with personal care, with his eating and medication for example. Danielle has also had to call an ambulance for her uncle several times. Despite the burden of these responsibilities, Danielle is a positive, extremely considerate and very energetic little girl. Having dreamed of being in the olympics, Danielle is now being supported to attend a local athletics club. She has only attended for a couple of months but in this time has already progressed into the middle group and is regularly entering competitions representing the club. She radiates enthusiasm for sports and to give her this opportunity of being torch bearer would not only be inspirational for her but an acknowledgement and small appreciation for the invaluable role she takes.
