Anyone and everyone involved in disability sport in Suffolk knows the familiar face of Danny Thorrington. Through his amount of voluntary work, sheer dedication and determination, Danny has raised the profile of disability sport in Suffolk and was recognised as Suffolk's Contribution to Disability Sport Award Winner in 2010. Not only does he volunteer at three disability sports clubs every week, covering Boccia, Sailing and Athletics. He is also Vice Chair of the Ipswich Disability Sports Forum, volunteers at the Suffolk Youth Games but also delivers many taster and showcase days in partnership with OPTUA. As well as assisting at Orwell Panthers, Danny mentors students in local high schools, teaching them how to understand disabled sport, including the barriers disabled participants face and how to adapt sports to cater for individual needs. Danny's enthusiasm and natural ability to communicate and connect with individuals of all ages and abilities, has resulted in £33,000 of external funding, which has instilled confidence and enabled every youngster that comes into contact with Danny to have fun and enjoy sport.
