Dan's nomination story

In 2007 Dan joined the Step into Sport programme as a volunteer, since then he has logged over 1100 hours of volunteering (over 850 of these were in the community). This has led him to receive the Dame Kelly Holmes Double Gold SiS award from the Youth Sport Trust. In 2009 Dan was invited to the National Volunteer camp for Rugby, Athletics, Gymnastics & Netball, where is excelled so much he was invited back the following year as a team manager and volunteer mentor. Dan has volunteered in many roles over the past 4 years; as the Young Ambassador for Gedling SSP, lead rugby coach for Christ the King School, as well as various roles supporting and developing sport across the Gelding SSP. In 2009 he was appointed at County Activator for vRugby by the Nottinghamshire RFU, in this volunteer role he recruits more young volunteers aged 16-24 into the game of Rugby. Dan is also very active in his local rugby club, Mellish RFC, where he is the lead coach for both the U16 boys and the women's 1st XV teams. He also sits on both the junior and senior committees as; coach, welfare officer & volunteer coordinator. In addition to this he also delivers taster sessions in local primary and secondary school on behalf of the club. 2010 saw his efforts and talent as a coach recognised by his acceptance onto the Nottinghamshire Talented Coaches Programme. Most recently Dan has been accepted into Leicester Tigers RC as a Strength & Conditioning Intern.
