Courtney took up gymnastics at only six years old and was selected for the British National Squad aged only eight. Courtney is an incredibly dedicated young man whose performances on the world stage are homage to his intense training. He commits 25 hours a week to training and this paid off again this year when he collected gold in Trabzon, Turkey, at the European Youth Olympic Festival where he also won the all-around trophy at the competion. At the UK School Games in Cardiff in September 2009 Courtney took the all around gold indvidual medal, team gold, gold medal on rings and 3 further silver medals. Courtney also performed outstandingly and led the British Team to victory in the International Coupe Avenir in Malmedy, Belgium, where he won two gold medals. Courtney is always striving to be the best he can be and even when he wins gold, he manages to spot areas for improvement. He is a role model to aspiring young athletes of all disciplines.
