Colin's nomination story

I would like to nominate my Dad to be an Olympic Torch Bearer in 2012. He is a below knee amputee, having lost his leg in a motorcycle accident at 18. At this age he ran cross-country for Devon and boxed for the South West Region. After numerous complications in trying to save his leg he was left with no option but to have it amputated. Now at 56 he is inspiring people from all walks of life. Not only is he dedicated to helping other amputees realise their potential and offers help, support and friendship but he also does a considerable amount of charity work. My Dad is currently running the 630-mile South West coast path for the limb charity Port-er. Although he has lost a lot and is often in considerable pain my Dad never moans about his situation, he likes to say that he is not disabled but EN-abled. My Dad is a truly inspirational man with a lot of courage and an extremely caring nature, many amputees think that after the loss of a leg they will never run again but my Dad shows so many people that nothing is impossible.
