Clive's nomination story

Over the years Clive, has raised thousands of pounds for charities in a variety of ways including wacky ideas such as organising and playing an international volleyball match on the summit of Ben Nevis, running from John O Groats to Land's End and swimming the Channel. He travelled to Nepal where he officially opened a school which had been financed by his Rotary Club. He collected and took a shipment of clothes to Romania for the street children and is actively involved with a Maidstone charity which provides help for the disabled in Romania. However, over recent years he has also run a local charity, The Maidstone Swimming Club for the Disabled, and turned it around from potential closure to a thriving club with over 70 members. He actively encourages disadvantaged local people who have mobility/disability problems to come along and enjoy the benefits of this friendly club. Several, with very severe disabilities, have learnt to swim with Clive providing teaching, reassurance and encouragement. On top of this he constantly finds ways to raise funds for the charity which mainly relies upon charitable donations. He is a keen sportsmen and despite having had a knee replacement, Clive has recently taken part in his first triathlon. I know that he would be proud and honoured to carry the torch, especially in the year he becomes a senior citizen!
