Clare's nomination story

Clare is a young person who is always looking out for others. At aged 11 years she came across a young girl suffering from a devastating genetic skin condition called 'Epidermolysis Bullosa' and was so affected that she started to raise money for the charity concerned with that condition - the Debra charity. Over the years Clare has raised around £20,000 for the charity and this year in September she will host her 11th funding raising concert. Clare has also raised money for Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Sunami and the Haitian earthquake. Clare has a great empathy for people and is unable to sit by and do nothing whilst others are suffering. Sadly, Clare's beloved grandmother is now suffering from terminal cancer. Despite working full-time, Clare has been sitting up with her grandmorther one night per week for the last 6 months. Last week she took three days annual leave to be with her grandmother full-time whilst her grandfather had some respite care. Clare cares for her grandmother with love and compassion and is helping her grandmother stay in the family home that she loves surrounded by her loved ones. I am very proud of my lovely niece. Her kindness and warmth shines through as does her modesty at her achievements. She is truly an inspiration to others and a worthy torch bearer.
