Claire's nomination story

"Claire Paczko is the most active fund raiser I have ever known, she throws herself into a very worthy causes, I am proud to know her" writes Debra, a colleague of Claire's on one fundraising website. On another, Andrew writes 'If it ever needed saying, you are a fantastic human being, I do not know anyone who is less selfless than you.We need to start some campaign to get you an OBE for charitable services". Claire has raised thousands of pounds on behalf of an array of charities. Over 15 years they have varied but outside of work as a Prosecutor where she champions the rights of victims and witnesses, she spends what is left of her free time concentrating on Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Crisis and St Oswald's Hospice in Newcastle. In 2010/11 Claire gave up an enormous amount of time to organise an event in aid of St Oswald's, which funded two new nurses and she is committed to arranging another in 2012. Claire's inspirational & continuing support to her friend who passed away of ovarian cancer in 2010 & her family is reflected by one of her friend's daughters,"I can't tell you how much everything you have done for my Mum & her memory means to us all.You have been strong when we can't and I feel very lucky my Mum brought you in to our lives". We don't see Claire over Christmas because she volunteers at Newcastle Crisis and spends the months running up to Christmas organising to receive, feed and provide warm clothes to the city's homeless and/or isolated.
