Major (Retd) Chris has written to me, his local MP to explain that he will be a very fit 70 years old when the Olympic torch travels through Worcestershire in 2012. From 1950 - 1970 Chris represented his county and the British Army as a middle distance runner and river canoeist. He was a rugby player and he helped the South African Rugby Football Union Development Programme expand into townships and helped to facilitate the abolition of apartheid there in 1994. Locally he developed and expanded the Malvern Rugby Club's youth section and set up the Upton-upon-Severn's youth development section, which like Malvern, is highly successful and expanding. Chris's brother Andy managed the British Swimming Team at the LA Olympics in 1984.
