Chris's nomination story

In 2009 Chris Johnson and Margaret Moore ( see separate nomination) started and still run the Leamington Nightshelter. For 2 nights a week in a borrowed church hall they provide food, shelter, a bed and support for rough sleepers. Anyone is welcome, even those banned by the Salvation Army, though they are searched - Margaret and Chris being the oldest trained bouncers in town. Old age pensioners themselves their gentle care for those on the margins of society is inspirational. All the sleeping bags, pillows, roll mats, blankets, toiletries, towels, food, first aid and cleaning stuff has to brought each time in their cars and re-loaded the following morning. Sometimes there are only 6 who stay but it can be as many as 23. Other vulnerable people, who have accommodation, come for a hot meal and company. Other volunteers assist, humbled by Margaret's and Chris' practical love for others.
