Christopher's nomination story

Chris Ferry is a 1st-year Nursing student at University of Leeds, having initially graduated from the University in 2009. As part of his International Development degree, he visited Kenya in 2007 and witnessed children living in poverty & on the streets. By 2008 he had registered the Eating Stones charity, raising enough money to rent a property and set up an orphanage, school and medical clinic in Nairobi. The orphanage currently houses 49 children between the ages of 2-18 years. The charity raised approximately £12,000 in 2010 & will hopefully achieve £15,000 in 2011. Chris has never been paid for his involvement with Eating Stones & spent time volunteering in Kenya since graduation. He has now returned to Leeds to study nursing having been inspired by medical staff at his charity's orphanage. Chris is a huge inspiration, highlighting the positive contribution that students make outside the University community.
