Christopher, now 24, was born profoundly deaf, and from the age of four had to leave home to attend weekly boarding schools. He wants to join in with everyone, and tries to communicate orally as much as possible, but often has to sign or write things to help. Christopher loves playing the piano. He takes weekly lessons, and has passed Grade 5. Christopher is very keen on running, and regularly attends his local club. He enjoys taking part in other events like cross-country runs, is hoping to run in next year's London marathon, and would love to be an Olympic Torch runner. Christopher has been an Altar Server and Minister of Communion at his two local churches for many years, and enjoys trying to help others. He is currently struggling to find a full time job, and has recently had voluntary jobs at an Oxfam shop and the Deaf Association, as well as some part time jobs. Christopher has been an inspiration to me, showing a level of determination to achieve that I didn't believe was possible. If you see the intense efforts he sometimes has to make to comprehend even simple statements, you can only feel greatly humbled.
