Christine Moroney

I am nominating my mum who has been blind since the age of 8. She is well known in the local community and is involved in various charitable organisations. She is chairperson of Forth Valley Talking Newspaper which is a weekly recording of our local newspaper and sent out to blind people in the area. She is also on the board of directors for Forth Valley Sensory Centre which helps deaf and blind people in the area. She also teaches braille at the centre once a week. My mum is also on the board of directors for Dial a Journey which is a service offered to people with reduced mobility and offers transport to those who cannot use conventional public transport. Mum also does talks to groups and has been to schools to talk to young children about the daily challenges she faces without sight. On a more personal note she childminds my 3 year old daughter 2 days a week while I go to work.
