I would like to nominate Chantel Spence for her contribution to charity and the local community this year.
She ran the London marathon in April having raised £2100 for the Charity Get Kids Going. In order to raise this cash she organised a local charity fun run for both adults and children. This was a popular event which brought the local community together at Christmas time, in fancy dress, and even got the attention of the local press. She also organised a band night which raised over £1200 towards her chosen charity and Asthma UK.
Chantel plans to make a yearly event of the Christmas Cracker (as it's now known) fun run in aid of various charities, chosen by the ladies of her club.
Chantel is a running coach and over the past 18 months has coached over 250 women in the sport. She runs her own club on a Tuesday night and coached ladies from beginners to intermediate levels. As a result of this some of these women are now embarking on their own running challenges such as local half marathons and 10k events. She has also organised races for the club in the local area, again raising awareness for the sport and encouraging women to get on board with one of her beginners groups and get fit.
Chantel has ambitions to expand her group to include encouraging children in local schools to get into running and also set up 50 plus groups.
