Sixteen year old, Chanel Carter from Canley has a bright smile and a warm confidence that's apparent from the first few seconds of meeting her.
At the age of 12 Chanel was diagnosed with desmoplastic fibroma, a very rare condition that resulted in a tumour developing in her right ankle.
Chanel had loved to take part in ballet and tap dancing but the very rare and painful condition led to many hospital visits before specialists confirmed that she may need to have part of her right leg amputated.
Chanel said: Ultimately it was my decision. If I didn't want the operation it wasn't going to happen. I know I made the right choice and with a new prosthetic limb I can wear the shoes that I want!
Chanel took part in her school sports day less than 12 months after the operation. Pupils cheered her on as she crossed the finish line - a sign of her reputation, determination and courage.
