I was a volunteer in the 80's for playgroups; in the 90's and 00's was a member of the Board of British Fencing. In 2002, aged 54, I raised £7,500 running for SportsAid in the London Marathon. Since 2009 I have been British Fencing's honorary insurance adviser and am now on the Safety Committee. This involves advising the Board of BF, coaches, clubs, members and parents of young fencers all over the country on safety, risk management and insurance for liability, and I'm still in full time employment. I have just signed up for mentoring of kids in a Hackney school and am a volunteer for the Olympic fencing event at 2012. I'm hoping to return to fencing myself after having both hips replaced. I keep very fit and am definitely capable of bearing the torch. Please choose me - Older people keep sport ticking for the young.
