Carys Hall

Carys has been a part of the London 2012 inspire marked, Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders (SAYLs) for five years. Since September 2010 she's given over 115 hours voluntary time to supporting SAYLs projects.She's taken up several different voluntary roles on these events, from meeting and greeting visitors from across world, working on information desks at events, being a live scorer for international table tennis events, courtside assistant for European International volleyball fixtures and speaking in front of 1000 people at the Sainsbury's UK School Games closing ceremony as a representative for all 400 volunteers at the event. She passes on her knowledge and support to younger members of the SAYL by acting as a mentor. As well as major sports events, Carys has supported her peers by becoming a level one trained badminton judge and helping run schools competitions in Sheffield and nationally.Carys was one of four young people from Sheffield to be part of the London 2012 Games maker campaign. She became the face of the campaign in Yorkshire.Carys was a very shy girl, who was rarely spoke out during discussions and felt fairly uneasy when faced with new challenges. Through the voluntary work Carys has had the opportunity to meet and volunteer with many people from all different sections of the community and the world. These opportunities have given her a confident and outgoing nature that has helped her succeed in her studies, voluntary work and sports. She sees the benefit of supporting her peers and her community through her voluntary work and continues to lead and volunteer today. Being part of the SAYls programme has given Carys a great appreciation of volunteers and the high value they have at sport clubs, local and major events. CR
