Carys's nomination story

Since April 2009, Carys has been involved with 1st Banwell Rainbows, Brownies and Guide Units:

In Brownies, she is 'Brown Owl', which involves the weekly running of the unit and meetings, developing a programme of activities and organising day trips out and camping trips;

In Guides, she is 'Piggett', the assistant Guider, which involves developing a programme for the younger guides and organising activities, evening adventures and trips;

In Rainbows, she is a Unit Helper, working with Rainbow members with learning difficulties to ensure they are part of all actviites.

Through Guiding, Carys helps girls and young women to learn new life skills, make new friends and grow in confidence.

Carys is also a volunteer for the National Autistic Society, helping to run a monthly social walking group and also befriending and helping to mentor a young lady with Asperger syndrome. Through her work with this organsiation, Carys is helping people with autism and Asperger syndrome develop their social skills and take part in activities that others take for granted in their normal day to day life.

Carys also helps other causes.This year, she has run the ten kilometres Race For Life with her mother, taken part in a fancy dress train walk for the National Autistic Society and organised a cake sale and a 'pick a pose' sweepstake for Comic Relief.
