Carrying the Flame through
Carrying the Flame on
Carolyn's nomination story

From the age of 12, my Mum's only ambition has been to carry the Olympic flame. Years later, it is constantly on her mind & has never wanted anything so much. The Olympics & sport has been a huge part of her life from a very young age. It started with making her own Olympic rings for her wall, to competing in 100m, long jump, & anchor in relay. As she grew up, she began teaching children in Sunday school, became a Cub Scout leader (along with her parents- her dad served for 65 years!) & for the past 14 years has been working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school. She is a large personality in the infant years of the school & is well loved by all the teachers, children & parents alike. She always works beyond hours expected, to provide for the children's needs. She does her part for charity also, by running the Race for Life for the past 5 years, spurred on by her sister's fight with breast cancer, so far raising £1000 in the process. As soon as the 2012 Olympics were to be hosted in London, she searched the internet to see if she could be involved in some way. That led to her registering as a volunteer for the Games. Then the Torchbearer opportunity arose & her dreams could one day be a reality! Mum has inspired so many & is a much loved woman in the community & in the family, we therefore believe she deserves to be rewarded by giving her the opportunity to fulfill her lifelong ambition, to carry the flame & play a small part in the largest sporting event in the world.
