Carmel is the local Police Beat Officer in the most deprived area in the South West. She has run 2 marathons for fundraising and raised over £2000 for SHELTER by running in the London marathon 2yrs ago. Last September she ran the New Forest marathon to raise funds for a school in Uganda that she support through her childrens school. She has set up local running groups and taken part in a prison dialogue scheme to help offenders approaching release from prison to reintergate into the community. She always treats people with respect and dignity, no matter what their situation or how they treat her. She has great relationships with the community- at one recent public consultation day we were asking people what were the good and bad things about the area and Carmel's name was written up as one of the good things as she listened and treated everyone equally and without judgement. Her professional standards are without fault- she embodies everything you would want in a local Beat Bobby and her attention to detail in remembering personal details about people makes them feel that they matter to someone. When I asked Carmel if I could nominate her she was truly humbled by the proposal and felt she didn't deserve the nomination. We feel that she is truly inspirational to those she works with in the community and should have her moment to shine as a local hero. She would be honoured to be a torchbearer and I hope that she gets a chance to see how much we greatly value her.
