Bron's nomination story

Bronwin is a disability sport coach at Portsmouth Athletics Club. She is seen as key support for disability athletics in Hampshire and the South. She began as an athlete and noticed there were very few coaches willing to help with the throws. England Athletics then asked her to coach English squads for competitions nationally and eventually international. Amongst her group- five international athletes- one European champion and record holder. She started coaching people with restricted growth and had such great success that disability athletics took off. Her involvement with Disability Sport Events meant she found even more athletes who needed support. She coaches disabled pupils in mainstream as well as special schools, encouraging them to enter competitions and take part in sport. When she started only 20 took part and now they boast 120 participants in competitions. At Beijing Paralympics- she attended as a throws coach and has been a GB coach for over ten years. A weightlifting champion herself- she has been a European champion ten times. She encompasses the true vision of a volunteer and Olympic and Paralympic values. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she always has time to get involved whatever the event. Although highly respected, Bronwin's humble nature means she goes about things sometimes quietly and possibly unnoticed.
