Brian's nomination story

Brian has devoted his full time working life to supporting adults with learning difficulties to achieve their personal best. For the last 28 years he has worked for Knowsley Council. In that time he has helped people to achieve many things. Recently he has encouraged a man who had been wheelchair bound for many years to walk independently within the local swimming pool. This may not seem like much, but to the person involved this was a huge achievment. He has supported people to find employment and regularly supports people to grow their own vegetables in their local allotment. He has arranged for the local Youth Offending team to work along side them within the allotment to encourage working links in the local community and has managed to secure funding so that the allotment site can be developed for the use of the local community. Recently he has started a Football Team on a Saturday morning to encourage people that he supports to get active at the weekends. He wanted to encourage people to get out at the weekends as this is when most adults with learning difficulties sit at home with nothing to do. I feel at this point I must say that Brian is Registered Blind. He has never seen his blindness as a disability and doesn't let it stop him in striving to do his best for the people he supports. He is an inspiration to me and our children. Our daughter who has the same eye condition is growing up believing that there is nothing that she can't achieve if she puts her mind to it
