Brian Leigh

Brian 60 yrs has been a member of Stockport Harriers and Athletic Club since 1980

In 1986 he staged for the clubs 75th Anniversary a 5 Mile Road Race

This year 2011 he is promoting the Len Mullen Memorial cross country races in aid of ' The Christies ' as part of the clubs Centenary celebrations in October 2011

Between 1983 - 1987 he Chaired the Stockport Athletic Track Appeal which were successful in obtaining £330,000 of funding for a synthetic track at Woodbank Park Stockport, Cheshire .

He continues to improve the facilities for athletes in Stockport area by campaigning for a new club house to replace a wooden classroom given to the club over 40 years ago. He assists at the Young athletes track and field leagues at Woodbank track.

He is actively involved in the following groups which he has raised over £10,000 a year for each charity:-

Help for the Heroes, Ghurkhas, Guide dogs for the blind, Beech wood trust, Macmillan cancer trust.

His is the Chairman of two National caged bird clubs. He is the show manager and fund raiser for two local cage bird societies and past chairman of the friends of Stockport cemeteries

Brian is making a significant and on going contribution to the provision of athletics facilities in the Stockport area .

He is a credit to his sport who benefit from his leadership and drive to improve his local community
