Brian's nomination story

A Hairdresser by Profession and a Freeman of York, he has for almost 40 years voluntarily taught and encouraged young and old to participate in Sports. Despite Hip replacement surgery he continues to teach shotokan Karate but has also taught Jujitsu and attained a 3rd Dan Black belt level himself. He has also competed in Judo and Gymnastics. In addition he taught swimming and lifesaving at local clubs and founded the York Knavesmire Harriers running club of which he still serves as president. He has run in 200 half marathons and 30 full marathons, including running the London Marathon 18 times, 9 of them dressed as Paddington Bear. He founded and organises the annual RU taking the P 5km run for research into prostrate cancer at York University's Yorkshire Cancer Research Laboratories raising £13k in it's first year ,2010, the 2011 event having just taken place.
