Brian has made a lifelong contribution to the sport as a highly successful club and international coach, also bringing immense vision. Following a career move to London from the North he continued his voluntary coaching until approached to become the British Team Manager, a role he fulfilled alongside his paid job as a Senior Executive in the Civil Service. The opportunity then arose for him to apply for the role of International Manager/Performance Director with British Rowing in 1990. Having been appointed his early successes included attracting Jurgen Grobler as Chief Coach Men and putting together the strategy to obtain Caversham Lake. Brian was the architect of rowing's current performance structure although it was not until Lottery funding that this could be fully implemented . Having retired in 1996 he is still extremely busy coaching young people besides being a very active Trustee of the Caversham High Performance Centre.
