Bharat's nomination story

Bharat Thakrar Served as a Harlow Youth Councillor for 5 Years from the age of 13 - 18, elected by his peers to represent them them as a voice to be heard within the community. Bharat's role was to listen to the young people of Harlow, to voice their views and to make a difference. Bharat become more confident when talking to others and is someone that can be approached and spoken to in confidence. Bharat helped and supported the campaign for a skate park in Harlow and setting up a youth cafe in the town centre. He conducted surveys and chaired meetings with local councillors and local businesses to obtain funding for the youth café. Bharat helped build a strong relationship and communication link between young people and adult councillors through the youth council work and by raising the profile of young people working in the community. Whenever he has the opportunity, Bharat will try to make a real change for those around him as he enjoys helping others and making others happy. After leaving the Youth Council to go to university, Bharat took on the role of resident assistant to help the new students adjust to uni life. He worked as part of a team to make sure that the residents were settling in and coping with university life as well as looking after their wellbeing.
