At age 13, Beth is already a shining example of what being part of her community is really about. She is a School Councillor, nominated by her peers and teachers to represent the views of the pupils at her school. Even at primary school she was given the Headteachers Award as recognition of her caring and involvement in daily school life. The team for which she plays weekend football won the 2011 Oxford Mail Girls Football League Fair Play trophy - although they conceded many goals during the season, she was part of a team that played with spirit and sportsmanship, never giving up and always with a smile on their faces. As a Girl Guide, Beth helps at community events such as the May Day parade and fair, serving cream teas at the local Manor in aid of charity and joins in local Guiding events with great enthusiasm. She is also an accomplished unicyclist and bell-ringer, hobbies she undertakes with her usual infectious sense of fun. Young people like Bethany are the future of Britain, the people who will care for our communities for many years to come. I want her to feel proud and inspired by holding high the flame, knowing she can be a force for good both for herself and those around her.
