Bernard has volunteered with many organisations over 25 years, including CLIC SARGENT,Cornwall Blind association,Radio Cornwall,Health Promotion,Camborne Rugby Club. Bernard had his own barbers for 40 years. Unfortunalely in 2005 Bernard lost his sight and was registered blind. Despite this Bernards determination for helping others did not stop. Bernard made the decision to get on with the new life he had been propelled into. He met a whole new group of people he could help. Bernard is now Treasurer of the Cornwall Blind association computer club, Captain of Blind Shooting Club, a health champion with the N.H.S. helping visually impaired people to prepare healthy easy meals, walk leader with Mobilise, taking visually impaired people walking. Bernard is involved with talking to visually impaired people in Cornwall on the phone who are isolated because of their sight loss. Bernard is reliable and honest, one of the true gems in life you rarely meet and are priviliged to know.Volunteering has become even more important to Bernard since his sight loss. In 2009 Bernard was Cornwall Volunteer of the Year, the first year the award was given, this was presented to him by Lady Mary Holborrow,Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall , an which was well deserved. I feel he would be an ideal candidate to hold the Olympic torch in Cornwall
