I would like to nominate my mum Bernadette to carry the Olympic Flame. Bernadette is a Local Hero in Exeter, Devon, both in her work and in her personal and social life. She works at the county council taking calls from all members of the community who need help and advice, whether it´s an elderly person who needs assistance in their life or children or those affected by adverse weather conditions such as being snowed in. She strives to give the best information she can to assist, while always being kind and helpful. In previous role she has worked to help homeless people get rehoused, and get counselling services. She has also worked at the Citizens Advice Bureau advising on a wide range of different situations, with her extensive experience and knowledge and her natural caring personality. In her personal life she always gives her enthusiastic support to local events which bring together people and showcase local crafts and groups, and promote community values. Bernadette takes a keen interest in political issues that affect the area and has attended many gatherings when MPs visit Exeter including being in the audience of Question Time. Bernadette would be honoured to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay and represent her local community when the Torch comes through Exeter, and be part of this historic event of the 2012 Olympic Games. She is dedicated to helping others and is enthusiastic in her support of her local community and would be proud to hold the Olympic Flame.
