Ben is a young man who represents everything that is good about young people being actively involved in sport. His main sport is swimming and he always does his best for his club and shows commitment to his training and competing. More importantly he sets a great example to the younger swimmers in the club and supports and encourages them in their own training. He has been Club Captain and completed his ASA Young Volunteers course aged 14 and since then has volunteered in the club with the Summer Swim School. He has qualified as a Level 1 teacher and regularly teaches children aged 3-11. Ben is a natural communicator and is able to convey not only his own energy and enthusiasm for sport but also that its cool to apply yourself, work hard, listen to your coaches, be on time, be respectful, set and achieve goals, eat healthily, be punctual, be organised but in a way that says you can do all this and have fun and enjoy yourself. Outside of pool swimming Ben has had success in Rugby, Athletics, Biathlon and Open Water Swimming. He is a Sports Leader, Sports Captain and mentor. He has been an Olympic Young Ambassador and ran sessions at local junior schools aimed at encouraging children who otherwise may not tune-in to sport to join in and discover the fun and benefits of a more active lifestyle. Ben will go to University to study sport to gain a career working in sport preferably in the field of education. I am certain that Ben is an ideal candidate to carry the Olympic Torch.
