Barry's nomination story

Barry's friend Artie White died suddenly, in his fifties, in 1993 from an unknown heart defect, Artie had been a big name in local football from playing, coaching and managing local league clubs. Barry wanted to do something to honour his friend's memory so set up The Artie White Foundation to support local charitable causes. He has chaired this for many years since then and along with others works tirelessly to raise money for local causes. They have supplied thousands and thousands of pounds to causes for sick children, helped individuals in dire need and supplied football kits to two teams for very many years amongst many other kind deeds. Barry works hard at fund-raising bringing well-known sporting personalities to the town to talk at dinners or hold boxing matches, evenings of entertainment and also raises funds in many other ways. Artie was a popular and well loved man and the people of this area support Barry and the committee's efforts more because they respect both men. If any one deserves this honour it is Barry and posthumously Artie too. Barry turned a personal tragedy into a positive that has supplied untold benefits for many people in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area.
