Arthur M B E is a local legend, here in Burnham on Sea. He ran in his first Triathlon here in 1989 aged 68. Having competed in 21 Triathlons and raised Thousand of pounds for cancer charity. He received his M B E from Prince Charles in 2008 for his work for charity over 35 years. His Royal Highness sent him a letter to wish him well on his latest event. At the age of 90, his latest Triathlon on 12th June 2011 was completed in 2hrs 45min 43sec, in appalling conditions of wind and rain. Arthur lost his son and his wife to cancer recently looking after both of them at home and still keeping his training going. He has beaten double pneumonia and shingles to continue to compete. He worked as an Engineer for Westland Helicopters for years and cycled the 9 miles to work in all weathers. Some one suggested he added running to his enjoyment of swimming and our Triathlete was born. He is a shining example to all the young people who use the local sports facilities and has a large following of supporters. I feel he would make an excellent inspirational Torchbearer for 2012
