Aqsa's nomination story

Re Aqsa Waheed Application for Olympic Torch Bearer Aqsa Waheed is a young Asian woman in Post 16 at school. Although not sporty, Aqsa has used sports leadership to its best advantage. Whilst completing her Level 1 Sports Leaders award she joined the Bradford East SSP Leadership Academy where she made her mark by becoming Silver, Gold and ultimately Platinum Ambassador. In this time she has completed 100+ hours of volunteering including running sessions with year 5 pupils from the local primary, cluster competitions, assisting in lessons and attending the Loughborough Easter camp 2010. In a community with limited support for young Asian girls to take part in sport, Aqsa has been a positive role model showing the way forward for youngsters from this cultural background and how they can get involved. Always appreciative of the opportunities afforded to her, to be able to bear the Olympic Torch would be a fantastic means of promoting social inclusion.
