Carrying the Flame on | |

I am 65 years old and didn't learn to swim until I was 30 because I am frightened of water. When my children joined the Swimming Club the parents were asked to help (everyone is a volunteer) and so began my journey of getting qualified to become a swim teacher and guess who they used as a practise Adult who was frightened of water during the course - ME!! So began a progression of helping on poolside to teaching/coaching , being on the committee and then the Swim Director of the Club. I got Cancer last year and am clear now and back at the Club and Ringwood Swim Academy where I teach babies to Adults. I won the BBC South Sports Personality of the Year for Voluntary Work in December and now I am looking forward to carry the Olympic Flame.
