Anita's nomination story

Anita lives on the Buttershaw estate in Bradford, Yorkshire. It's an area of deprivation, high number unemployed, problems with racism and anti-social behavior. Most of the children & young people are always short on things to do leading to vandalism and ASB. A resident, Anita Adams decided to made a change, she spent her own time and money organising activity days for the C&YP. Last summer she spent weeks and weeks getting permission for a piece of unused land, she was successful. On the land there was stalls, raffles, games, bouncy castle, sports. Local street residents came out of the their houses and interacted which was the main aim. Police and young people came together and played games & interacted together in a way they would of never of thought. A young boy who was a known as big trouble maker was playing swingball with a police officer for example. The community all of ages and races came together, had fun and enjoyed the day. It was a huge success and she got high praise from residents, local council and police. She held another event again with own money and time at Easter where there was an easter egg hunt and art/crafts/games at the local community centre that was completely full. She is now on the local organizing committee to create more days like this. She gives up so much of her time, money and invests emotionally in trying to bring the community together. So for this reason I believe she is an idea candidate to be involved in the torch relay.
