Angie's nomination story

Angie is the founder, head swimming teacher and chairman of the Conwy Whales swimming club, a very special club which caters exclusively for children with disabilities and is the only club of its type in north Wales. Angie started the club in 2002 with a handful of children and has worked tirelessly over the years for the club, which has flourished, and now has in excess of 30 members. 2012 will be a milestone year for the club as it will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Angie has inspired not only the young swimmers, but also the swimming teachers and volunteers she has recruited and encouraged with her friendly and kindly approach. She was instrumental in the club receiving the Club Mark and works hard to ensure that the teachers and volunteers receive the necessary training. Angie also raises funds for the club, which relies on subscriptions, grants and donations, by taking part in sponsored events and applying to various local bodies for financial assistance. I cannot praise Angie enough and feel that her hard work over the years for our children and the club is truly deserving of the honour of carrying the Olympic torch.
