Andy's nomination story

Andy was once a prisoner to heroin. Addicted. His life was devoted to drugs. Andy became a man trapped in a lifestyle he hated and he began to hate what he had become.

8 years ago Andy was completely destitute in hospital due to his addiction, he was told he would have to lose a limb having experienced deep vein thrombosis and septicaemia.

Yet something in him wanted to live. He pulled back from his illnesses and got himself to rehab.

Now this man is managing an addiction treatment centre in Merseyside. He completely turned his life around and has been clean and sober for nearly 9 years. He is now helping so many others in the rehab yet also helping many others as a recipient of the fundraising he now does.

Andy ran the New York Marathon 3 yrs ago and has recently completed 2 triathlons, raising money for childrens charities along the way. Andy has made fitness and sport a key element of his personal recovery and he conveys this message to all the clients he now supports. He is changing the lives of others in so many ways.

Andy is a man of integrity and of community. He now has his beautiful daughter in his life and is married to his soulmate Carla who is a substance abuse social worker.

Merseyside is grateful for all the life changing work Andy does and we thank him fo being the epitome of CHOOSING LIFE. A true torch bearer and role model to all! CR
