Andy's nomination story

Andrew is registered blind and began to loose his sight at 17 years old. His condition Stargadts Macular Dystrophy is very rare and has no cure. His vision deteriorated very quickly and has had a huge impact on his life. He has however not let this stop him from living life to the full and in some cases achieving more than most sighted people. He works full time as a Director for a high street bank, and is currently the World B2 Blind Golf Champion. His passion for golf is inspiring and he plays at the highest level. He not only plays but raises funds to help continue the efforts of the English Blind Golf Assoc, which is such a life line to men and women who have lost their sight through, illness, accidents etc. The achievements Andrew has made are numerous, winning all manner of events, NPower Disabled Sportsman of the year 2009, being Order of Merit Champion for England. He has given talks about his condition and how he has been able to see the world differently and not let his sight hold him back to try and encourage people with disabilities to take risks and not give up. I feel Andrew would be a perfect candidate for torch bearer to show that life continues and can be amazing with or without a disability. He is fiercely patriotic and there would be no greater honour for him that to hold aloft the Olympic torch as a symbol of the pursuit of perfection and the struggle to victory.
