Andrew's nomination story

Teenager Andrew McNulty won the 2007 Young Person Of The Year award sponsored by Weymouth College. He was up against tough competition but Andrew was chosen for overcoming great personal difficulties and showing courage while still finding time to help others. Since the age of 10, the unsung hero has helped to support his poorly mum Moira McNulty by taking his younger sister Derry to swimming lessons, entertaining his two younger brothers, cooking and cleaning the house - all despite undergoing two hip operations himself. Proud mum Moira is currently awaiting an operation to remove a hernia from her skull and she describes him as 'one in a million'. Now aged 16, Andrew, of Kitchener Road, Weymouth is studying Public Services at Weymouth College. He has signed up to join the RAF in December 2012 where he aims to specialise as a firefighter to help save lives.
