Alys love of athletics and her total commitment has been reflected in her achievments for both Orkney and Scottish athletics.She has won gold silver and bronze medals in North District championships,representing Scotland in British Schools championships 2005-in the 400m 800m and gaining gold in the 4x400m.She represented Orkney in the Junior Intercounty from 2001-2006 inclusive,setting numerous records and was captain of the squad in 2006, she was also awarded young female of the year 2005 at the Orkney Sports awards.She was in the Orkney Island games squad 2005-2009 gaining bronze in 4x4 2005. As a member of the Pony club she was nominated for the British Mounted Games Team as a result of her hard work and dedication to the club.Her love of sports led her to graduate from Edinburgh University with a degree in PE teaching.Her voluntary work for 2011 includes,high fires volunteer where she supervised 8 boys at the Stromness fire station,school hockey team coach ,soccer one girls coach,pathways netball assisting in weekly sessions with a group of 26 primary girls from numerous schools around orkney,stromness academy netball coaching soley organising an inter-school tournmant with the 2 local secondary schools and finally she was the stenness primary netball coach enabling them to enter saturday tournaments and league games who were winners of the challenge tournmanent.This illustrates how she has increased the oppertunies for local youngsters to take part in physical activity
