Alec's nomination story

Alec was diagnosed aged 5 with Dyspraxia (balance/co-ordination disability), then aged 10 he was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome (Autistic Spectrum disorder). Then aged 11 came the biggest diagnosis - MPNST, a rare Cancer in his leg (Nov 09). He had chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy during all this he smiled & joked entertaining younger children on the ward. Then in July 10 he raised £2000 to buy toys, dvds & players, games consoles & games, books etc for the hospital ward at UCLH, as well as a few games/computer games accesories for Medway & donated £100 of this to a tv/dvd for the anesthetic room at RNOH-by arranging & completing sponsored games console relay. Then about a year after diagnosis he was told metastatis had spread to his lung, this was removed Jan 11, March 11 he pledged to raise £500 for Starlight Foundation in 6 months, he has already doubled that target in just 3 months by collecting donated goods & running stalls regularly at boot fairs, farmers markets etc inc tombolas, name the bear & other games. As a teenage boy living with all he has in the past it would be easy to curl up & wallow inself pity but instead he stays positive by looking at what others live with & wants to help others have a better quality of life. He attends school & boys brigade when he can & always does so with a smile, he has reciently returned to his big sporting love of horse riding after an 18 month break due to his illness. He is so thoughtful, caring & positive. Current fundraising total for Starlight is £2250 in 5 months.
