Alex's nomination story

Alex is the Head of PE at The Stonehenge School. In the five years he has been there he has changed the department from attaining 35% A*-C pass rate at GCSE to 100% for 2011. He gives up his time to dedicate a fully enriched extra curricular programme for the children. His teams have many accolades in recent years; they are 13th National X Country Junior Boys, Salisbury District football champions Years 7, 9 & 10. He coaches everything from girls Netball to district football which takes him to fixtures all over the region. Alex is an inspiration to the students at his school, and the local area. Because of his dedication and hard work, he has changed the perception of sport with the students. The rise in attainment both educationally and the successes of the students on a personal level has been noted by parents, peers, colleagues and the local press. Alex will be missing the Olympics as he is taking a group of 22 students to Kenya for 4 weeks during the summer holidays. He is devastated that he will be missing the coverage of such a prestigious sporting event in his own country. The trip is designed as an enrichment for the students who will be completing conservation projects, and helping to develop and rebuild communities within Kenya. The children attending will gain valuable skills, and a wider insight into the complexities of the wider world. Giving up his summer holidays is a testament to the kind of person he is. I hope you will consider him to represent Salisbury.
