Alex's nomination story

Alex began trampolining at 6 achieving grade 1 national standard at 13. He took up Acrobatic Gymnastics at Deerness Valley gymnastics centre age 10, represented GB at European championships by age 12 winning a Silver Medal ; at times he was training 25 hrs weekly for both sports, now he trains 19 hrs per week concentrating on Acrobatic Gymnastics, along with a self-designed weights schedule at home. Alex and his partner have been in British champions for the past four years, have represented GB and 5 international, 2 World and 3 European championships winning 3 silver medals. Alex empathises with the less experienced GB athletes, especially if they feel they have underachieved, he is always there with a friendly word. Alex was Co Durham young sportsman 2011. Few people realise that Alex suffers from the genetic condition cystic fibrosis and was quite poorly before being diagnosed at 3 years old.
