Thomas's nomination story

Aled Canter, because of speech and learning difficulties, was unable to talk until he was 6 years old. He worked hard at his special school and his determination resulted in being accepted at his local High School where he gained 10 GCSEs - 4 at Grade C and above, which led to a college place on a BTech course in Business Studies. Aled's Mum and Dad are divorced. His dad has not kept in touch with the family. Aled's dad now lives in America. Aled misses his dad who he has not seen for 7 years. Aled wanted to learn Karate and obtained a newspaper round to help his mum pay for his Karate lessons. He gained a Black Belt only to develop a hernia which was operated on last year. With his usual determination, he returned to Karate to regain his fitness. Aled worries about being different. I feel that my grandson Aled, is an inspiration to all children who start out attending a special school.
