Alastair's nomination story

Alastair is autistic, high functioning but always has difficulty with his social skills.. He helped at the transplant games and then helped at the boccia world cup and the difference was amazing. He went from being behind the scenes not wanting to meet people to helping at the information desk translating for the spanish speaking countries.. He has started fencing and this has helped him relate with his peers and he has also done some voluntary work doing teas and coffee`s at small church functions.. He is also a scout and does environmental work cleaning river banks and helping with younger troops.. The confidence this child has gained from his involvement with voluntary work is amazing and his ability to relate with his peers. He is a brilliant example of how voluntary work helps the person as much as the community. . His parents are also foster parents and he has been a big brother for at least 6 children. One of whom he still talks about and considers his `sister`..
